This Privacy Policy describes how JP Weather Sky LLC collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit our website at jpweathersky.com. We take your privacy seriously. We collect only what we need, use it only for the purposes stated here, and never sell your data to third parties. This policy applies to all visitors, regardless of location.

Our Japan field station operates at 2-4-10 Aomi, Koto-ku, Tokyo 135-0064. Hana Suzuki is the founder and managing member. For privacy-related inquiries, contact us at sky@jpweathersky.com.

What Information We Collect

Information you provide voluntarily: When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the topic you selected, and the message you wrote. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add your email to any marketing list. We do not share your contact details with partners, advertisers, or any third parties.

Cookies and usage data: We use cookies to understand which pages are most visited and which sky phenomena our readers are most interested in. This helps us prioritize content. The cookies we set include: a session identifier, a cookie consent preference, and anonymous analytics data. We do not use cookies to track you across other websites. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We do not build profiles of individual users.

Weather API interactions: Our website fetches weather data from the Open-Meteo API, a free public weather service. When your browser makes this request, your IP address is transmitted to Open-Meteo's servers as part of the standard HTTP protocol. We do not control Open-Meteo's data practices. Their privacy policy is available at open-meteo.com. We do not log your IP address from these API calls.

Server logs: Our hosting provider maintains standard server logs that include your IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamps. We access these logs only for troubleshooting and security purposes. Logs are retained for 30 days and then deleted automatically.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes only: to respond to your contact form submissions; to understand which content is most useful to our readers; to diagnose technical problems; and to prevent abuse of our services. That is it. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not use it for automated decision-making. We do not use it for any purpose not listed here.

When you submit a sky report through our contact form, we may use the information you provide — with your explicit permission — to update our observations or add new locations to our guides. We will always ask before publishing anything attributable to you. If you submit a correction, we will verify it independently and credit you only if you request it.

How We Protect Your Information

All data transmitted between your browser and our server is encrypted using TLS 1.2 or higher. We use HTTPS for all pages, including static content. Contact form submissions are stored in an encrypted database accessible only to Hana Suzuki and David Park. We do not store payment information because we do not process payments on this website. Our PDF sky guide is sold through a third-party platform; their payment security practices apply.

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include access controls, encrypted storage, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services: Open-Meteo API for weather data; Google Fonts for web font delivery; and our hosting provider for server infrastructure. Each of these services may collect data according to their own privacy policies. We have chosen services that align with our privacy principles, but we do not control their practices. We recommend reviewing their policies if you have concerns.

We do not use Google Analytics. We do not use Facebook Pixel. We do not use any advertising networks or retargeting services. We do not embed social media widgets or sharing buttons that track you. Our website does not connect to any external service that is not strictly necessary for its function.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; and request a copy of your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at sky@jpweathersky.com. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are in the European Union, the legal basis for our processing of your personal data is your consent (for cookies and contact forms) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the website. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are in Japan, we comply with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI). You have the right to request disclosure, correction, or cessation of use of your personal information held by us.

Data Retention

We retain contact form submissions for as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry and maintain a record of our communication. Typically this is 24 months. After that period, we delete the submission unless you have opted into ongoing correspondence. Server logs are retained for 30 days. Cookie consent preferences are retained until you clear your browser cookies or change your settings.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting a prominent notice on our homepage. Your continued use of the website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
